Job Summary
The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of a highly available and secure enterprise network environment supporting operations at Nashville International Airport (BNA). This role requires deep hands-on expertise in Cisco-based LAN/WAN infrastructure, routing and switching, wireless technologies, and network resiliency. The ideal candidate is a local, onsite engineer with an active CCNP certification and strong experience supporting mission-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, formulate, and define network project scopes, objectives, and technical solutions aligned with business and operational needs.
- Provide advanced technical support for enterprise network infrastructure by identifying requirements, installing components, performing upgrades, and monitoring network performance.
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot LAN and WAN environments, including wired, wireless, and VLAN-based networks.
- Identify, track, and manage upgrades and lifecycle management of network assets, including:
- Switches, routers, firewalls
- Wireless access points and controllers
- Fiber optic cabling, network cabling, and modems
- Design and support complex switching environments using Cisco IRS routers, Cisco Catalyst switches, and IOS-based platforms.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date LAN/WAN documentation, diagrams, and configurations.
- Diagnose and resolve network issues related to performance, connectivity, security, and availability.
- Follow a formal change management and change control process, documenting all hardware and software changes.
- Evaluate network topology and develop strategies to improve redundancy, resiliency, and fault tolerance.
- Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to ensure reliable network operations and timely issue resolution.
Technical Skills & Expertise
Required
- Strong expertise in Local Area Networking (LAN) concepts, including:
- Rapid PVST
- Spanning Tree Protocol
- Multi-Chassis EtherChannel
- VPC, VRRP, VSS
- Trunking, SVIs, VLANs
- In-depth knowledge of routing protocols, including:
- BGP
- EIGRP
- OSPF
- Hands-on experience with Cisco enterprise networking technologies:
- Cisco IRS Routers
- Cisco Catalyst Switches
- Cisco IOS
- Proficiency with network management and security tools:
- Cisco Catalyst Center
- Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)
- Wireless LAN Controllers
Qualifications
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) – Active and current (required)
- 7+ years of experience in enterprise network engineering and operations
- Proven experience supporting complex, high-availability network environments
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills
- Ability to work onsite in Nashville, TN
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work within structured IT change processes
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting transportation, airport, or other mission-critical infrastructure environments
- Exposure to network security best practices and compliance standards
- Experience with large-scale wireless deployments
