Job Description

Job Title: Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) Technical Architect

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Tysons, VA 22102

Position Type: Hybrid with 3 days onsite

 

Rockwoods is looking for a hands-on SFMC Technical Architect to design and implement optimal, scalable solutions in Salesforce Marketing Cloud for our client in Tysons, Virginia. This role partners with solution and technical architects across the enterprise to understand the big picture within Salesforce and the Client's reference architecture.

Leveraging strong analytical and consultative skills, the architect will provide strategic and technical guidance to meet the Client's marketing and engagement objectives — including overseeing email link tracking, analyzing engagement results, and generating reports from send logs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Architect, design, and build scalable SFMC solutions integrated with other Salesforce applications (FSC, Data Cloud, Tableau, MCP, MCI)
  • Apply deep expertise in SFMC best practices, marketing compliance, Email Studio, Automation Studio, Journey Builder, Marketing Cloud Personalization, Mobile Studio, Audience Builder, and more
  • Stay ahead of new SFMC features and Salesforce Marketing Cloud product enhancements
  • Collaborate with Product, Product Marketing, and Data stakeholders to design, build, test, and optimize email and mobile communications
  • Coach SFMC developers, Email Specialists, and QA team members on complex journey development, SMS campaigns, and data model design
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues during development and post-production
  • Build large data pipelines from Salesforce Data Cloud, FSC, Snowflake, and other sources for email and SMS channels
  • Work within Agile frameworks using tools like Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, and Litmus
  • Demonstrate proficiency with AMPScript, SQL, and workflow/data integrations
  • Apply knowledge of AI models, Agentforce, agentic AI integrations, and Einstein features within Salesforce

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Business, English, or a related field required
  • Proficiency in Salesforce Marketing Cloud is a must
  • 5+ years of experience in email development, audience management, marketing automation, segmentation, testing, and deployment
  • 3+ years working with cross-functional teams (Digital Marketing, Creative Services, Go To Market, Product, Business Analytics)
  • 3+ years as a SFMC Technical/Solution Architect — bonus points for experience with MailChimp, HubSpot, Marketo, Eloqua, or Adobe Campaign
  • Extensive understanding of email communication processes and workflows
  • Strong proficiency with audience data management, SQL, and database sources
  • Proficiency with A/B and multivariate testing strategies across digital channels
  • Strong aptitude for brand design, creative consistency, and copy alignment
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and AMPScript
  • Extensive experience with Landing Pages and Microsites
  • Deep understanding of Salesforce Core CRM data model across Sales, Service, and Experience Cloud
  • Experience with email reporting, tracking, and optimization strategy recommendations
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms: WordPress, Drupal, Adobe Experience Manager, Expression Engine, or similar
  • Experience with web analytics tools: Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, or WebTrends
  • Strong familiarity with Salesforce Clouds (Data Cloud, Sales Cloud, Financial Services Cloud) and integrations within the Salesforce ecosystem
  • Ability to suggest innovative ideas in email, CRM, and marketing automation to enhance the overall Client member experience

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Extensive B2C marketing experience; familiarity with consumer finance products is highly preferred
  • Knowledge of online marketing, web best practices, and mobile design methodologies
  • Experience with email marketing tools and HTML editors (Litmus, Dreamweaver, Visual Editor, etc.)
  • Ability to build and maintain Tableau / Power BI dashboards for email performance and attribution metrics
  • Knowledge of Adobe GenStudio, Firefly, Adobe Campaign Manager, AJO, and other Adobe Suite tools
  • Excellent communication, conflict management, and negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of financial institution operations is a plus
