Job Description
Role: Principal Infrastructure Architect
Location: Remote
Duration: 6 months Contract-to-hire
Must to demonstrate architecture experience or migration from a mainframe legacy system to a cloud-based system
This incumbent will help drive the infrastructure hosting team's strategy, in collaboration with the enterprise architecture team, to modernize our infrastructure and reduce our reliance on legacy technologies. This role will have experience managing up and down through the organization to help achieve our transformation and modernization objectives.
Summary:
The Principal Infrastructure Architect provides strategic and technical leadership to the company’s Hosting, Infrastructure, and Operations teams, driving modernization, scalability, and performance across IT systems. This role oversees infrastructure modernization, technical debt reduction, and service-level improvements, leveraging expertise in mainframe, midrange, middleware, Wintel, Unix, networking, storage, virtualization, security, disaster recovery, and automation to build a secure, resilient, and cost-effective technology ecosystem.
Working closely with Enterprise Architecture and cross-functional teams, the Architect guides hybrid cloud adoption, ITSM maturity, and infrastructure optimization aligned with long-term strategy. Responsibilities include evaluating emerging technologies, shaping migration strategies, supporting vendor relationships, and ensuring solutions meet performance, security, and compliance standards. Through strong collaboration and technical vision, the Architect ensures infrastructure evolves to meet current needs and future business goals.
Experience:
• 10 years of progressive experience in enterprise infrastructure architecture, engineering, or related IT leadership roles
• 5 years of hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including design and deployment of hybrid and multi-cloud solutions
• Experience leading infrastructure modernization initiatives, including legacy-to-modern transitions, hybrid cloud adoption, automation, and ITSM maturity
• Extensive hands-on expertise across infrastructure domains such as mainframe (IBM Z/OS), midrange, Wintel, Unix, networking, storage, security, and data center hosting
• Strong background in virtualization, containerization, and infrastructure automation using tools like VMware, Hyper-V, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Ansible
• Demonstrated ability to evaluate and operationalize emerging technologies (e.g., AI/ML, AIOps) and ensure compliance with regulatory standards in highly regulated industries
• Proven success in leading large-scale infrastructure projects, collaborating with enterprise architecture and business stakeholders, and managing vendor relationships and contracts
