Role: Mainframe DevOps Consultant
Location: Remote
Must-Have: Hands-on experience migrating from Panvalet to Git

What the client needs:
An expert who has actually led a migration from Panvalet (or similar like Endevor/Changeman) to a modern Git platform. They’ll own the whole process—pulling out COBOL, JCL, DB2 code, moving it to Git, setting up automated builds, and making mainframe developers work comfortably in modern tools like VS Code.

Key things you’ll do:

• Extract source code (COBOL, JCL, DB2, etc.) from Panvalet and move it into Git (GitHub/GitLab/Bitbucket).
• Design how Git repositories are organized, branching strategy, and access rules.
• Build CI/CD pipelines (mostly GitHub Actions, some Jenkins) that can compile mainframe code using DBB (Dependency Based Build) and deploy to z/OS automatically.
• Set up developer toolchain: VS Code + Zowe Explorer + DBB so mainframe devs can code without green screens.
• Write DBB YAML-based build scripts for COBOL, PL/I, JCL, DB2 programs.
• Create documentation and train the development, QA, and ops teams on Git workflows and new tools.
• Troubleshoot pipeline issues and keep improving the developer experience.
• Advise leadership on modernization strategy.

Must-have skills to submit:

• 12+ years in mainframe (z/OS)
• At least one full migration project: Panvalet → Git (or Endevor/Changeman → Git).
• Strong Git skills: GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket.
• CI/CD: GitHub Actions or Jenkins, with mainframe build automation.
• Mainframe DevOps tools: DBB (Dependency Based Build), Zowe CLI.
• Core mainframe tech: COBOL, JCL, DB2, also familiarity with CICS, JES, USS.
• Code quality: SonarQube integration.
• Scripting: Shell, Python, or Groovy.
• Soft skills: Able to train teams, create runbooks, and talk to leadership.
