Role: Python Developer – Open-Source Package Integration & Maintenance

Location: Frisco, TX

Mode of work: Onsite

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Python Developer with strong expertise in Python packaging, dependency management, build systems, and automated testing. The role will focus on upgrading and integrating third-party Python packages, resolving compatibility and dependency issues, addressing build and test failures, and ensuring successful validation across supported environments.

The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience maintaining or integrating open-source Python packages and be comfortable troubleshooting complex dependency, packaging, CI/CD, and compatibility issues.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Upgrade and maintain third-party Python packages across supported Python runtime versions.
  • Analyze and resolve dependency conflicts, API changes, import errors, packaging issues, and automated-test failures.
  • Troubleshoot compatibility issues introduced by package and dependency upgrades.
  • Update package metadata, build configurations, requirements, and dependency specifications.
  • Work with Python packaging technologies including wheels, virtual environments, pip, and PyPI.
  • Reconcile local patches and custom modifications when integrating newer upstream package versions.
  • Diagnose and resolve CI, presubmit, build, and test pipeline failures.
  • Develop and execute automated tests to validate package upgrades and integrations.
  • Analyze build and test logs to identify root causes and implement appropriate fixes.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to maintain stable and secure third-party package ecosystems.
  • Document package upgrades, compatibility changes, fixes, and technical decisions.
  • Identify and remediate outdated or vulnerable dependencies as part of package maintenance.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience with Python development, debugging, and troubleshooting.
  • Solid understanding of Python packaging and dependency management.
  • Experience with pip, PyPI, wheels, virtual environments, and Python package installation workflows.
  • Strong experience with pytest or equivalent Python testing frameworks.
  • Experience resolving dependency conflicts and Python version compatibility issues.
  • Proficiency with Git, Linux, shell scripting, CI/CD pipelines, and log analysis.
  • Experience maintaining, upgrading, integrating, or troubleshooting open-source Python packages.
  • Strong understanding of package metadata, build configuration, and dependency specifications.
  • Ability to investigate failures across source code, dependencies, build systems, and automated test environments.
