Cloud Data Engineer

 SUMMARY:

• 10+ years of Data Engineering experience
• Will be the sole point person for anything Azure – needs to be strong in that space, able to teach others
• Will be basically keeping the lights on for Azure stuff
• Must have multi-cloud experience (come from multi-cloud environments (meaning: AWS + Azure)

Technical Requirements:

• Primary: Azure Data Factory (ADF) – must be able to advise on best practices.
• Secondary: PostgreSQL – critical for speed layer architecture; candidate must have experience architecting for performance and source integration.
• Tertiary: DynamoDB – experience preferred, but if a candidate is strong in other areas, light experience here may still be acceptable.
• Additional Stack:
  • Snowflake
  • On-prem/SQL (used in Republic Services)
  • AWS tools: Lambda, Python, CI/CD, DevOps capabilities (platform-level experience expected)

Responsibilities:

• Data migrations across the above stack.
• No new development initially.
• Must document all data pipelines and monitor for potential breakpoints.
• Provide advisement on internal controls and system stability over a 6-month horizon.

Preferred Background:

• Experience in environmental solutions is a plus.
• Familiarity with data engineering in Azure environments.
• Must be a proactive contributor—not an order taker.
• Ability to guide and support a maturing data practice. Republic Services will rely on this person to consult as the tech stack is new to them and they don’t have maturity in this skillset as of yet.
