Unix & PL/SQL Engineer

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Unix and PL/SQL Engineer to support large-scale, high-availability applications within Discover’s technology environment. The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in Unix-based systems, advanced PL/SQL development, and strong analytical/problem-solving skills. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to enhance application stability, performance, and data integrity.

Core Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and optimize complex PL/SQL procedures, packages, triggers, and performance-tuned queries.

Support critical batch processes, file transfers, and automation pipelines in a Unix/Linux environment.

Troubleshoot production issues involving database code, Unix scripts, job failures, and performance bottlenecks.

Develop and maintain shell scripts for automation, orchestration, and system monitoring.

Collaborate with application teams, QA, DevOps, and infrastructure groups to ensure system reliability.

Participate in code reviews, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Support release deployments, version control, and environment management.

Required Skills

5+ years of strong hands-on experience with Oracle PL/SQL.

Proficiency in Unix/Linux commands, shell scripting, and debugging.

Expertise in SQL performance tuning and query optimization.

Experience working in fast-paced, large enterprise environments.

Strong analytical mindset with excellent troubleshooting skills.
