Role Summary

The Technical Writer will develop, maintain, and update technical, business, and user documentation for IT projects. This role collaborates with project managers, business analysts, developers, and stakeholders to ensure clear, accurate, and standards-compliant documentation in accordance with client’s standards and applicable Administrative Code rules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain technical, business, and user documentation (project plans, business cases, requirements, user guides, manuals, training materials).
  • Gather requirements through interviews, research, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, user-friendly documentation.
  • Review, edit, update, and manage documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare status reports, management briefings, and meeting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational documentation standards and guidelines.
  • Support multiple projects independently and meet deadlines.

Required Technical Skills

  • Expert proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience documenting user stories, business and IT system requirements.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Certification in technical writing or related field.
  • Experience with state or federal government IT projects.
  • Knowledge of documentation standards and best practices.
  • Familiarity with SDLC methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall).
  • Experience with CMS and version control systems.
  • Proficiency with Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python, R, SAS, Microsoft Project, JIRA, Trello, and ERP systems.
  • Experience with graphic design tools, UX principles, and multimedia content creation.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and IT security in criminal justice environments.
  • Experience conducting training sessions or workshops.
