Title: Power BI Architect
Location: Tallahassee, FL 32399 (100% Onsite)
Duration: 12+ Months with possible extension/hire
Interview Mode: 5% chance of second round onsite
Job Summary: The Agency is seeking a Data Architect who meets the following “Intermediate Qualifications”. Qualifications must be clearly stated and validated on the Candidate’s resume and verifiable via reference checks. Knowledge and proficiencies claimed by the Candidate must be clearly indicated on actual work experiences listed in the resume.
Minimum Qualifications
A bachelor's or master’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, information systems, or other related field.

Experience:
• A minimum of seven (7) years of experience with large and complex database management systems, including providing expert oversight. State of Florida Financial Systems, HR and Administration Systems; Experience with APD systems to include: CDC+, NG-QSI, FRS, Resource Directory, HRTS (Preferred but not required).
• Coordinating with IT EDW teams to make complex data accessible for dashboard consumption.
• Five (5) years of data cleanup experience.
• Leading business analysis for data acquisition and implementing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to sanitize disjoined information.
• Five (5) years of experience in enterprise data design.
• Balancing data access optimization within Power BI against batch loading and resource utilization.
• Five (5) years of experience in architectural standards.
• Defining nomenclature and policies to ensure the environment complies with accepted data content standards.
• Five (5) years of experience integrating Power BI with Microsoft 365, Azure, Dynamics 365, SQL/Oracle databases, SharePoint, Salesforce, Google Analytics, APIs, custom connectors, and websites.
Certifications:
• Power BI certification.
General:
• Experience with Office automation and productivity tools: Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, Visio, and Word.
• Native connectors: Experience integrating Power BI with Microsoft 365, Azure, Dynamics 365, SQL/Oracle databases, SharePoint, Salesforce, Google Analytics, APIs, custom connectors, and websites.
• Communication: Team-oriented professional with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience with Toastmasters strongly preferred.
Responsibilities:
• The Data Architect (Intermediate) will be responsible for the following including, serving as the strategist for the structural integrity and standardized governance of all dashboarding initiatives:
Data Cleanup Framework:
• Leading and performing business analysis for data acquisition and implementing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to sanitize and align disjoined information.
Architectural Standards:
• Defining nomenclature and policies to ensure the environment complies with accepted data content standards.
Expert Oversight:
• Coordinating with the IT EDW team to make complex data accessible for dashboard consumption.
Governance, Permissions, and Security:
• Leading, advising, and directing cross-functional teams to define governance, permissions, and security protocols that meet APD’s needs.
• Designing security layers and permission hierarchies, determining how the Agency’s sensitive data is partitioned so internal and external stakeholders access only authorized information.
• Defining tenant and workspace governance, including permissions, naming conventions, and workspace structures.
• Balancing data access optimization within Power BI against batch loading and resource utilization.
• Integration with Internal and External Systems.
• Integrating Power BI with Microsoft 365, Azure, Dynamics 365, SQL/Oracle databases, SharePoint, Salesforce, Google Analytics, APIs, custom connectors, and agency websites using native connectors.
• Leading and managing integration of Power BI within APD’s existing environment.
Application & Workspace Structuring:
• Implementing a multi-layer architecture using separate layers for staging, shared datasets, and thin reports to enhance maintainability and reusability.
• Structuring Power BI apps with clear sections, folders, bookmarks, and global filters to simplify navigation and user experience.
• Maintaining distinct development, testing, and production workspaces and utilizing CI/CD pipelines and version control for deployment.
Training & Adoption:
• Delivering role-based training to ensure staff at all levels understand their interaction with Power BI.
• Curating a Center of Excellence (CoE) with best practices and reusable assets to support long-term adoption.
• Communicating consistently and effectively with APD staff, Executive Leadership, and stakeholders.
• Collaborating with internal APD resources, including the Information Security Manager, Data Unit, and EDW team, to ensure project completion in accordance with applicable regulatory, legal, and security requirements.
• Working effectively with cross-functional business units and groups with varying functional backgrounds (operational, technical, managerial, programmatic, etc.).
• Building partnerships and collaboration among individuals and project teams.
Administrative Expectations and Deliverable Accountability:
• The contracted staff will perform each duty, task, assignment in a timely manner as specified by their director.
• The contracted staff will gain approval and confirm that each of the summary tasks below have been completed by their director.
