Senior DevOps Engineer (Contract)

Location: McLean, VA (Hybrid)
Employment Type: Contract

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Senior DevOps Engineer to drive infrastructure automation, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud operations for high-stakes projects. In this hybrid contract role based in McLean, VA, you'll ensure seamless deployments, robust security, and compliance readiness while collaborating with development and operations teams to enhance system reliability and scalability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Jenkins, including advanced deployment and rollback strategies to minimize downtime.
  • Manage AWS services such as Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, and ECS for building scalable, serverless architectures.
  • Implement OpenTelemetry for distributed tracing, monitoring, and observability across microservices environments.
  • Oversee secrets management (e.g., AWS Secrets Manager) and vulnerability scanning tools to maintain secure, compliant infrastructures.
  • Ensure compliance standards (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR) and operational readiness through automation, audits, and documentation.
  • Collaborate on incident response, performance tuning, and infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to on-call rotations for production support.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of DevOps experience, with 5+ years in Python for scripting, automation, and tooling.
  • Expertise in CI/CD with GitHub Actions and Jenkins, including deployment/rollback best practices.
  • Hands-on proficiency in AWS (Lambda, S3, DynamoDB, ECS) and container orchestration.
  • Strong experience with OpenTelemetry for observability, secrets management, and vulnerability tools (e.g., Snyk, Trivy).
  • Proven track record in compliance frameworks and operational readiness for enterprise environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm, or EKS for containerized workloads.
  • Experience with IaC tools and monitoring stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Agile/Scrum methodologies and hybrid cloud environments.
